The controls are: WASD to move, hold Left Shift to run and Spacebar to jump. Press down in the air to fastfall.

Forrest Run is my 2nd DT3014 game design project, where the goal of this project is to build a game with an emphasis on 1 core mechanic. The core mechanic I've chosen for this game is platforming and parkouring, emphasizing on movement and agility. I wanted to make a game where the mechanics are very simple and basic, yet have a lot of skill expression with a relatively high skill ceiling and competition. Therefore, I wanted to implement an online leaderboard to incentivize replaying and striving for a better time.

The online leaderboard is based off of the free online leaderboard asset Dreamlo. Unfortunately, the free leaderboards provided uses only HTTP requests which doesn't work on Itch.io. Itch.io needs HTTPS to work, and I am not able to donate to get the a HTTPS address instead as donations doesn't work in my country. Thankfully, a friend of mine helped me to circumvent it.

This game project was built in a span of about 5 weeks. Coding and spritework of the mushroom character by me. Tileset graphic assets are from  Fantasy Swamp Forest Tileset (https://theflavare.itch.io/forest-nature-fantasy-tileset)

Sound Effects and Music are from Ocarina of Time.

Fun game. Plenty of variety during levels, character controls well and very nice artstyle, with a soundtrack that reminds me of my childhood fondly.

As a speedrunner, appreciate the QoL of adding the Retry button by quickly pressing R, and adding the controls to show it's possible to fastfall (It took me ~2h to discover it before it was shown in game).
By achieving to get the fastest results ended up noticing a few quirks on the movement such as a Cornerkick mechanic which can be consistent and very fun to pull off, with minor inconsistencies that can be either improved on the code, or leave it the way it is right now to be abused by players looking to get better times.

Overall, had lots of fun playing it. See you on the leaderboard.

I got some bug while juste on the corner of a platform while climbing I kinda freeze ( falling) 

When you jump on the bottom of a platform and spam jumping you stay in the air

I fell a little tutorial could be great ( I only discover the fast falling on my second run )
